Prepare your licence translation before you travel
A licence translation prepared for the destination and recipient. Clear copies of both sides, passport name spelling and travel plans help us assess the required document set.
The translation presents the source licence. Check driving entitlement and any approved-translator requirements for the destination.

Field-by-field checks for practical use
| Field | Review focus | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Name and identity | Compare the source name, date of birth and licence number across the document set. | Passport spelling, previous names and name-change evidence. |
| Issue and first-issue dates | Distinguish first issue, renewal and validity dates and use an unambiguous date format. | Whether first-issue evidence or an additional record is needed. |
| Validity and licence status | Reproduce expiry and source notes without changing licence status. | The current version and any renewal, replacement or name change. |
| Categories and restrictions | Preserve source codes and translate categories, restrictions and notes. | Check the intended vehicle and local category entitlement separately. |
| Reverse, annexes and seals | Check reverse-side text, handwritten notes, annexes, issuer and seal information. | Complete images of both sides and annexes without cropping or glare. |
Photograph documents clearly to avoid repeat requests
Complete and clear
Show every corner, readable text, identifiers and seals without glare or obstruction.
Avoid cropped edges
Do not omit document edges, reverse-side notes or annexes.
Avoid glare
Turn off the flash and adjust the angle so details such as expiry remain legible.
The diagrams are fictional layouts, not real licences, translation products or official documents. Prepare both sides of the main and supplementary licence pages, where applicable, and every annex. You may initially provide passport name spelling as text; do not upload a passport on this page.
A clear process from enquiry to submission
Confirm the use
Share the destination, recipient, purpose, languages, submission date and written instructions. Check named providers, linguist qualifications, signatures, stamps or notarial conditions first.
Review files and agree the scope
Count pages and annexes, identify missing or unclear content, and agree versions, price, translation timing, format and supporting evidence. Resolve material requirements before starting.
Translate with consistent names
Translate the confirmed source with agreed name spellings, organization names, terminology and date formats. Record and resolve source queries.
Review and prepare final files
Check identifiers, figures, key wording, seals, annex alignment and layout. Prepare the stamps, statements and supporting documents included in the agreed scope.
Check delivery and handle feedback
Explain the delivered document set and handling instructions. Review recipient feedback against the original brief to establish whether translation revision, supporting evidence or a further procedure is needed.
Agree the document form before production
Licence translation
Accurately presents licence information for review. Agree the language, content coverage and layout.
Translation with statements or stamps
Adds agreed responsibility statements, signatures or stamps. Check any recipient-specific qualification or provider conditions first.
Documents requiring further formalities
Confirm notarization, authority recognition or other procedures separately. A translation stamp, membership or quality-system certificate does not substitute for them.
This service provides licence translation and agreed supporting documents; it does not issue an IDP. Check the destination authority’s requirements and your own driving entitlement before driving.

- Agreed electronic or paper files, copy count, layout and binding.
- Required translator statements, stamps and evidence confirmed as available in the scope.
- Checks on names, figures, dates, identifiers, annexes and final-file completeness.
Four checks before submission
- The recipient, purpose and instructions still match the brief, with a complete document set.
- The source version, name spelling and validity are correct; no pages or revisions are missing.
- Required signatures, stamps, linguist qualifications, evidence and further formalities are met.

Frequently asked questions
Is a certified licence translation an International Driving Permit (IDP)?
No. This service provides a translation of licence information with agreed statements or stamps. It does not issue an IDP or grant driving entitlement. Local rules, licence status, residence or visitor status and permitted categories govern driving. Carry the valid original licence as required.
Will one translation work in every country and with every rental company?
There is no universal acceptance promise. Language, translator qualifications, format and original-document requirements vary. A rental company’s document policy does not replace road-traffic rules. Share the specific destination and the authority’s or rental branch’s written instructions before commissioning.
What if an approved translator or named provider is required?
Before paying, share the required qualification, approved-provider list or official link so eligibility can be checked. A general translation stamp does not replace a specified qualification. For example, NZTA sets requirements for who may provide a licence translation; see the official link below. Do not order for a use whose provider conditions cannot be met.
What if names, validity or vehicle categories are unclear?
Names are checked against the licence and confirmed passport spelling; provide evidence of name changes where relevant. Expiry, first-issue dates, categories and restrictions are translated from the source. Local category equivalence and an expired licence’s validity are not created through translation. Queries are resolved before final delivery.
How do I choose electronic or paper delivery and plan timing?
Check whether the recipient accepts electronic files or requires signed or stamped paper, a source copy or postage. Translation, review, issue and shipping milestones are agreed after file assessment. Urgent requests depend on resources. A renewed licence, extra language or new destination calls for another version and requirements check.
