- Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the Vietnamese capital of
Hanoi on Thursday, kicking off a two-day state visit to the neighboring
country. It is Xi’s first visit to Vietnam as China’a head of state and
top leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Xi’s plane touched down at Noi Bai International Airport at about
11:50 a.m. local time (0450 GMT). Xi, together with his wife Peng Liyuan
and other delegation members, were greeted by Dinh The Huynh, a member
of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party
of Vietnam (CPV).

"I hope my visit could help cement our traditional friendship, outline
future development of our relations, and lift China-Vietnam
comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new level," the
president said in a written statement upon arrival. China attaches great
importance to its traditional friendship with Vietnam and views
bilateral ties from a strategic height and long-term perspective, said
Xi. He lauded the smooth development of bilateral ties since the two
countries forged diplomatic relations 65 years ago, saying their
deepened partnership has brought tangible interests for the two peoples
and made important contribution to regional peace, stability and
prosperity.
习主席到达后，在书面声明中指出“我希望
此次访问能够巩固两国传统友谊，规划未来两国关系发展蓝图，将中越全面战略合作伙伴关系提高到一个新的水平。”习同时指出，中国高度重视与越南的传统友

Xi recalled the April visit to China by Nguyen Phu Trong, general
secretary of the CPV Central Committee, saying the consensus reached
between the two sides is now being implemented and the bilateral
relationship is moving forward to the building of China-Vietnam
community of common destiny.
习主席回顾了越共中央总书记阮富仲在今年4月对中国进行的访问，指出两方当时达成的共识现在正在施行，两国关系正向着建立中越共命运的方向发展。
Xi said he is looking forward to having in-depth exchanges of view
with Trong, Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang and other Vietnamese
leaders on the relations between the two parties and the two countries,
as well as on international and regional issues of common concern. He
will also address the Vietnamese parliament on how to further promote
China-Vietnam relations. China and Vietnam are expected to sign a host
of agreements on areas such as party-to-party cooperation,
infrastructure, economy, trade, investment, culture and education.
习主席表示，他希望与阮富仲总书记、国家主席张晋创和其他越南领导人就两党、两国以及国际和区域共同问题深度交换意见。他将在越南国会就进一步促进两国关系发表演讲。中越有望在两党合作、基础设施建设、经济、贸易、投资、文化和教育等领域签订一系列协议。
"Despite the short time span of the visit, the achievements are
expected to be fruitful," Li Jun, a senior official of the International
Department of the CPC Central Committee, said at a news briefing
regarding Xi’s visit earlier.
在习主席访越之前，中共中央国际部高级官员李军在新闻发布会上说到，“尽管此次访问时间较短，但我们期望有丰硕的成果。”
Xi’s visit comes at a time when the two countries are celebrating the
65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Bui Hong
Phuc, vice president of Vietnam-China Friendship Association, deemed
Xi’s visit "the highest level visit to Vietnam by a Chinese leader"
within 10 years, saying it is a great event in bilateral relations. "I
hope the visit will bring important outcomes, carrying joy for the two
peoples," Phuc told Xinhua.
习的此次访问正值两国庆祝建交65周年之际。越中友好协会副主席裴鸿福认为，习的此次访问是中国最高领导人时隔10年再度访越，是中越双边关系的重大事件。裴告诉新华社，“我希望习的此次访问能够收获重要成果，为两国人民带来幸福。”
Relations between China and Vietnam sank to a low point last year due
to disputes over the South China Sea, but the two sides have seen warmer
ties with frequent high-level contacts this year. Xi’s trip is also
reciprocal for previous visits to China by Trong and Sang.
由于在南海问题上的意见分歧，中越关系在去年恶化，但今年两国频繁的高层联系使得双边关系逐渐回暖。习的此次访问也算是对之前裴鸿福和张晋创之前访华的回访。
Highlighting the shared interests between the two socialist countries
led by communist parties, the leaders of both sides have agreed to bear
in mind the overall situation of China-Vietnam friendship and seek
common ground while shelving differences, so as to ensure that the
bilateral relationship will develop on a right track.
中越都是共产党领导的共产主义国家，通过强调共同利益，两国领导人就中越友谊总体形势达成共识，求同存异，以确保双边关系正常发展。
China has been Vietnam’s largest trading partner for 11 consecutive
years, while Vietnam is now the second biggest ASEAN trading partner of
China. The two countries have also witnessed enhanced people-to-people
exchanges in recent years.
中国连续11年来都是越南最大的贸易伙伴，越南也是中国在东盟的第二大贸易伙伴。近年来，两国人文交流也不断增多。
"President Xi is expected to draw up a blueprint together with
Vietnamese leaders for the development of China-Vietnam ties in the new
era from a strategic and long-term perspective," Chinese Ambassador to
Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong said. Vietnam is the first leg of Xi’s two-nation
Asia tour, which will also take him to Singapore on Friday.
